Letter from a former Summer Camper

My name is Carlos Eli Santiago and I am 11 years old. I live in North Philadelphia and last year I went to my first summer camp at Fellowship Farm.

At first I was scared but then I realized how special this camp was. I am the oldest of three and I see violence around me every day. At camp I met kids who were just as scared as I was and experienced how things could be better.

I live everyday trying to understand why there is a bar across from my school and hear gunshots at night.

I have friends who have been run over by cars because they are running from the police. I have friends who are smart and intelligent but their families are on drugs and don’t know how to get out of it. But I also have friends who just need a chance to see something new and peaceful and just be a kid and play.

Please support Keep the Kids Safe Summer Camp. Stop talking about the problem and help us with a solution.

When I grow up I promise to everyone to remember how I was given a chance and help kids as best I can.

Thank you for your support.
